20 Jan 08 International Truck to pay fine

International Truck and Engine Corp. will pay $317,925 in penalties and costs to settle a lawsuit charging the firm with violations of state water and air pollution laws that date back to 1999.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice’s environmental enforcement action relates to the company’s Waukesha iron foundry known as Waukesha Manufacturing.

According to the complaint, filed at the request of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Waukesha Manufacturing failed to update its storm water pollution prevention plan, submit storm water compliance reports, and maintain best management practices required for storm water pollution prevention.

The foundry also allegedly failed to perform air pollution control testing, monitoring and record-keeping required to ensure compliance with air emission limits.

According to the DNR, the Waukesha facility is now in full compliance with state storm water and air pollution laws.

International Truck and Engine is a Warrenville, Ill., producer of medium trucks, heavy trucks, severe service vehicles and diesel engines.
