13 Apr 07 New York Auto Show Shy on Truck Intros
The NY Auto show seems to be a non-event for truck introductions, so let’s look back at the Toyota Tundra, introduced a few months ago in Detroit. Stand next to a one of the new trucks, especially the CrewMax, and you’ll see why Toyota staff members call it the big truck. I’ll have a Tundra review up shortly, but for now here are some Tundra facts and visuals.
* The Regular Cab Tundra has more room behind the front seats and throughout the interior in general.
* The Access Cab is now a Double Cab and has full-sized, front opening doors and more spacious rear seating.
* The Tundra CrewMax is larger yet, with 42.5 inches of front legroom and 44.5 inches of legroom in the rear. There’s enough space for its back seats to slide and recline.
* The new Tundra has standard seat side and side curtain airbags that can be turned off for rough road driving, but will still deploy for a side impact or rollover.
* I really like the navigation based camera in the tailgate handle. It’s a big help when you back up or hook onto a trailer.
* Tundras equipped with the 5.7-liter V8 engine and Tow Package will tow from 10,100 to 10,800 pounds.
* Regular and Double Cab Tundras will start shipping on about February 12th; the CrewMax a month later.
Fuel economy ratings:
* 6 cylinder, 4.0-liter engines: 17 city / 20 highway
* 4×2 and 4×4 truck with the 4.7-liter V8 engine: 15 city / 18 highway
* 4×2 trucks with the 5.7-liter V8 engine: 16 city / 20 highway
* 4×4 trucks with the 5.7-liter V8 engine: 14 city / 18 highway
