11 Dec 07 Truck spills paper, fuel on Interstate 91

A Truck driver from Texas was cited by Vermont State Police after his Tractor trailer unit crashed Friday night on Interstate 91, spilling its load of paper products and about 30 gallons of diesel fuel.

Police said the driver, Eric Gonzales, 33, of La Joya, Texas, was cited for driver fatigue and inattention for the accident, which was called in to police at about 11:30 p.m.

Both Hartland Fire Department and Hartford Emergency Services were called to the scene, but Gonzales was not injured.

Police said Gonzales was operating a 2008 Peterbilt tractor owned by Royal Freight LP of Lebanon, Tenn., and Pharr, Texas. The tractor trailer was hauling 21 tons of paper products.

The southbound lane of the interstate was closed for about four hours for removal of the jackknifed truck. The Vermont Department of Emergency Management was notified about the spill.
